This ingenious device demonstrates the scientific principles behind cyclones, whirlpools and hurricanes.

It simply connects two water-filled fizzy drinks bottles.

As water flows from one to the other a spectacular vortex of swirling water is created - an effect that can be further enhanced with the addition of a little food colouring or glitter. The packet gives further details of the natural forces at work.
