RepTools Safety Snake Net
A net designed by ourselves for use in the remote capture and handling of aggressive snakes. We routinely use this net for catching Rattle snakes, Vipers and Sea Snakes. This piece of equipment is now a standard item in a number of european zoos where it provides a safe method of capture by normal members of staff in the event of an escape.
The snake net is double seamed and also has a 10cm gap from the bottom of the net to maintain some distance and a safe area for grasping the net.
The Snake can be caught, moved and released without the need to actually handle it.
The Net is held in your strongest hand with the control hoop at the base of the net looped around the small finger on the same hand.
The snake is netted or coaxed into the opening of the net using a hook.
The net is then raised up, while the control hoop is held.
This means that the snake slides down to the base of the net and is held away from the catchers body.
The net head can then be rotated several times so that the top of the net is wound around the handle.
The snake is now secure and can be moved to the area for release. Once there the net head is rotated in the opposite direction to allow the release of the snake.
Lower the unwound net head to the ground and pull the control hoop towards you using your free hand. This will tip the snake from the net back into the cage.
